Take part in the White Ribbon Day 2020 and the 16 days of Activism against Gender-based Violence. Make a promise to never remain silent about male violence. Ask for privacy for survivors’ counselling sessions.
White Ribbon Day 2020 is Wednesday 25 November.
It is followed by 16 days of activism against Gender-based Violence that conclude on the 10th of December on Human Rights Day.
Each year thousands of people stand up, speak out and say no to violence against women. During the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve seen a significant increase in violence, harassment and abuse towards women. We urgently need to work together to prevent violence and make sure our communities and homes are safe for everyone.
At Quetzal, we make the promise to never commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women.
We also know that the journey towards recovery can be difficult for survivors of abuse.
Counselling can help!
What survivors want, especially under COVID-19 restrictions is Privacy for their remote counselling.
At Quetzal, due to the restrictions, all our counselling is now being carried out either online or by telephone. We’ve found that for some survivors, they had to carry out their counselling sessions in their car, on their doorstep, at neighbour’s home or had to cancel counselling altogether and live without support with the trauma of abuse, putting them at risk of suicidal ideation and self-harm.
Make the promise to give them privacy for their journey towards recovery and to support them so they can build better lives for themselves and their community, and break the silence.
The following action pack gives you ideas to do for the campaign from the 25th of November 2020 to the 10th December 2020.
