Every year, over 400 women in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland reach out to Quetzal for counselling support as they deal with the impacts of childhood sexual abuse

Thanks to your donations, we can support them in their journey towards recovery from the trauma of childhood sexual abuse.

We’re also charity partners with BetterPoints app where you earn rewards for your active and sustainable travel across Leicestershire.

Through their Choose How You Move rewards challenge, you’re able track your journeys using the free BetterPoints app, earn points and redeem them for high street vouchers or donate them to us for helping us make a difference to the lives of many.

The Impact of your donation

In 2019, we helped 308 women. These women benefitted from reduced risk of suicide or self-harm, reduced anxiety and improved wellbeing. We helped women transform their lives and recover from this awful crime.

Those women can be in long- and short-term education and find that the demand and stress of their course triggers negative memories of their past. Those women can be successful at their job, always striving for more perfection while their sense of worth is never fully fulfilled. Those women can be expecting their first child and this affect their sense of being as they redefine their identity and look to the future of raising a family of their own. Those women can live with the memories of abuse for decades and only in older age do they decide to confront their painful memories and find closure. Those women come from different culture and background where sometimes honour and shame define whether or not one day they will be able to break free from their torment. Those women can be affected physically and mentally and yet, want to take the steps to recover.

Those women share the pain of non-recent abuse and through your donation, we give them the space to define for themselves who they are and to develop and acquire the necessary  tools for them to own their story and build a better life.

In 2019, we also went to various events to raise awareness about the value of counselling as well as the trauma of childhood sexual abuse.

Abuse continues to affect thousands of women and girls each year. The main tool, society gives to abuser so they can keep on abusing children is silence. With donations, we reach to communities and empower them with knowledge, so they are equipped to support victims of non-recent abuse as well as children. The Breaking the Silence initiative, as such, support South Asian communities in Leicester to discuss this issue and to find ways to support more women from those communities.[/ultimate_modal]
