Explore Identity through Textile - creative workshop event details

Textiles, Identity & Mental Health – Making Something of Your Story
What can a piece of fabric say about who we are, what we’ve experienced and how we see the world? Join award-winning comedian and theatre-maker Juliette Burton for a playful, creative textiles workshop exploring mental health, identity and self-expression.
Taking inspiration from the creative process behind the costumes for Juliette’s show ExperiMental, you’ll experiment with colour, texture, pattern and words to create a small textile piece of your own. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, and no creative experience required—just the freedom to explore and make.
If you’d like to, you’ll have the chance to share your finished textile piece as part of a special one-night-only WORD! gallery at Attenborough Arts Centre that evening. Your work will sit alongside a playful, evolving display of words, drawings and textiles—pegged to washing lines, written on tables and walls (with banqueting cloth to catch it!) As part of the evening, Juliette will take to the stage to perform, ExperiMental – wearing the bespoke costumes that have grown out of her previous community textiles work. There will also be an opportunity to share your textile piece again at WORD!Fest at Leicester Central Library on 27 October.

All workshop attendees will be added to the guest list to watch the show for free
