Kindness as Empowerment with WORD!

Kindness starts with how we treat ourselves. Through playful exercises, conversation and comedy, Juliette explores the connection between kindness, mental health, positivity and empowerment. Drawing on her own lived experience alongside research, this lively, team-building workshop offers practical ways to build self-compassion, strengthen connection and bring more kindness into everyday life—with plenty of opportunities to laugh along the way.

The workshop is part of a wider day of celebration, with a WORD! event taking place that evening from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Attenborough Arts Centre as part of Black History Month, headlined by the renowned poet Grace Nichols.

Participants will be invited to share work created during the workshop through gallery tablecloths and washing-line displays. We are particularly encouraging artists of Black heritage to contribute further through a limited number of open mic slots, although everyone is warmly welcome to attend, share, celebrate and connect.

Juliette Burton facilitates workshops in creative writing, empowerment and mental health. With over a decade of sold-out shows at Edinburgh Fringe, international tours and speaking engagements for organisations including Google, Adobe, KPMG, Jaguar Land Rover and Merlin Entertainment, Juliette combines humour, lived experience and research to create engaging, memorable and empowering experiences. Award-winning comedian and theatre-maker Juliette Burton is coming once again at Quetzal to deliver not one session but three sessions exploring textile and poetry.
