Mental Health – 101: Building Confidence, Compassion & Practical Skills
How can we feel more confident talking about mental health—and better equipped to support ourselves and others? This engaging, interactive workshop explores mental health, early warning signs, safe conversations, active listening, de-escalation and signposting. Combining humour, lived experience and research, Juliette creates a supportive space to develop practical skills, compassion and confidence—while having fun along the way.

This introductory workshop offers a creative and accessible exploration of Mental Health 101, providing a safe space for learning, reflection and discussion. Led by Juliette Burton, the session will encourage participants to explore wellbeing through creative activities while connecting with others in a supportive environment.

While there is no accompanying evening event, participants are warmly invited to attend the WORD!Fest celebration at Central Library on Tuesday 27 October, from 4:00pm to 9:00pm.

Ahead of the main event, a limited number of Creative Health and poetry-writing one-to-one sessions will be available from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, alongside a final workshop led by Juliette Burton taking place in the main library area. The day will conclude with refreshments and an open mic showcase, offering plenty of opportunities to share creative work or simply relax, connect with others and enjoy an uplifting community experience.
