We are pleased to share that Aleemah is the winner of the Frank May Cup Volunteer of the Year category 2026.
Aleemah is an emotional support volunteer since June 2025 at Quetzal and she is also volunteering in other charities including Headway and Shout.
Quetzal nominated Aleemah for the Frank May Cup Volunteer of the Year category 2026
Staff at Quetzal say,
“Aleemah’s reliability, dedication and genuine enthusiasm have made her an invaluable member of the team at Quetzal. Colleagues describe her as someone who consistently goes above and beyond, bringing warmth, empathy, and professionalism to every interaction with both clients and fellow volunteers. Throughout her volunteering journey, Aleemah has developed advanced communication, safeguarding, and reflective practice skills, continually learning through feedback and self-reflection. She has also become a role model within the organisation, supporting others within the team and helping to strengthen the quality of the service provided.”
Upon reflecting on her volunteering experiences, Aleemah says,
“Volunteering has been one of the most meaningful and transformative parts of my university journey. Alongside balancing university and a part-time job, I’ve had the privilege of volunteering with organisations including Quetzal, Headway and Shout, each of which has taught me something invaluable. Working with smaller charities especially opened my eyes to how important volunteers are in helping organisations continue supporting vulnerable people in the community. Even giving a few hours of your time can make a real difference to someone who needs support, understanding or simply someone to listen. Whilst volunteering has helped me professionally by building confidence and communication skills, it has also helped me personally, it has taught me so much about empathy, human connection, resilience, and even about myself. I would encourage every student to volunteer, because even giving a small amount of your time can have a powerful impact on both others and you.”
