The Queen and I Arts & Crafts Project is Quetzal’s first participatory art project involving women who experienced childhood sexual abuse aged 16 and above living in Leicester City. The title was chosen in memory of Sue Townsend who used to be Quetzal’s charity patron and wrote the same title’s play and book.

Leicester-based visual artist, Khush Kali invited, over 7 sessions, the participants to develop artworks and displays reflecting upon what is to be a Queen. The project was the first project inviting Quetzal survivors to participate in a creative imaginative and artistic group activity.

In total, 6 participants attended the art & crafts sessions. The project resulted in a display first showcased at Quetzal Open Day on 17th June 2022, followed by an exhibition. Quetzal was featured on BBC Leicester to promote the sessions.

The project was funded by Art Council England and administrated by Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland Community Foundation.

We want to thank all the participants for their inputs in the project.
